Heart & Soul Funerals

As an independent funeral company in Buckfastleigh and Totnes, we’re proud to have supported our local communities across South Hams, since 1990.

Our premises are located beside the River Dart, where we care for people who've died. Here, in this peaceful spot, we host funeral services in our beautiful stone barn, which all clients are welcome to use.

We have a deeply rooted set of values which run through all aspects of our work. We are gentle, thoughtful and inclusive.

About Us

Why choose Heart & Soul Funerals

More than 25 years ago we realised that an increasing number of people were looking for a different funeral experience; a more individual and personal funeral. The funeral would reflect the life, values and beliefs of the person who died and their close circle.

Birte, Paul and the team abide by these principles still, whether you want a funeral that is simple or held over multiple days, a traditional or modern approach, religious or secular, a cremation or a burial. We give you time to explore ideas, we listen to you and we use our expertise to carry out your wishes to the letter.

Our aim is to help you to create whatever kind of funeral feels right. We cover an area which includes South Hams, Teignbridge, Dartmoor, Torbay, Plymouth and Exeter, with our main premises in Buckfastleigh and a shop in Totnes.

Wherever you are in South Hams, pleasget in touch and we'll do everything we can to support you.

We provide a wide range of services, including traditional and natural burial, services in places of worship, home or outdoor funerals, attended or unattended cremation.

We can also help if you are looking ahead and exploring your own funeral wishes.

We'll be guided by you and always work at your pace.

We Need to Talk About the Funeral

Arranging a funeral at the time of need can be a daunting task. Most of us don’t talk about it in advance and not many people know that there are very few rules around funerals.

What would make a beautiful funeral for your special person or for yourself?

Here’s where our book can help: ‘We Need To Talk About The Funeral – 101 Ways To Celebrate And Commemorate A Life’.
With one idea per page, it's an easy read and can be dipped in and out of. It covers almost any question you might have about funerals; from ideas about ceremonies, attire and music to scattering ashes and what to do when family members disagree.

It's a supportive guide and completely free - please let us know if you'd like a free hard copy and we'll get one to you. You can read it online here.
